The secret in solving this kind of puzzle is to discover a move (called a trick) that allows us to swap a few balls while keeping the rest undisturbed.

By some trial and experimentation, we discovered a move TRICK1 that swaps 2 balls at slots 4,5 while keeping the rest undisturbed.

Once we know TRICK1, whenever we want to swap any 2 balls, we would move them to slots 4 & 5 (remembering those moves for later use), apply TRICK1 then undo the moves.
